Forest Park is the public municipal park that encompasses all of the trails and locations each Wildwood Candle Co. scent is dedicated to. One of the country's largest urban forest reserves (ranking 19th in size among other U.S. parks), it spans over 5,000 acres, equaling out to more than 70 miles of trails and firelanes. In the early 1860s, civic leaders desired to create a natural preserve in the woods near Portland, but it wasn't until 1948 that it was officially inducted.
Portland author and wildlife biologist Marcy Houle states it perfectly:
"[the park] captures the essence of what is natural and wild and beautiful about the Northwest... From this forest sanctuary, panoramic views of the city of Portland, the Willamette and Columbia rivers, and five major peaks of the Cascade Range ... can be seen through the tall fir trees. From its inception ..., Forest Park has been a refuge for both people and wildlife, and an integral part of the environment of Portland."
