The Alder trail connects Leif Erikson to Wildwood, which was completed in 1980. Deciduous red alder, cedar and big-leaf maple primarily line this trail, which inspired this scent to be heavily and richly woody. It is surely one that will uplift and soothe your spirit.

Smells great, burns terribly

I bought one of these at a shop in Astoria—it smells great and I was excited to light it. Sadly, there appear to be big gaps in the wax around the wood wick. The initial wax that melted around the top of the wick slipped down into them, leaving the wick with no wax touching it and nothing to burn, self extinguishing after ~2 total minutes lit.

I'll try re-lighting it, but since the wick is now below most of the rest of the wax I'm pretty sure it'll drown itself on the next light.

Disappointing construction quality—I was really looking forward to this one based on the smell.

Hi Andy,
Thank you for letting us know you had issues with an Alder candle you purchased recently. It sounds like it was unfortunately a one-off. We will be reaching out to you via email to get this right for you.

One of my most favorite scents of all time!

This is one of my most favorite candle scents of all time ever! It's THE perfect palo santo woodsy scent. It's so calming and the perfect level of scent. Highly recommend!!

Favorite candle ever encountered.

This candle is dreamy and beautiful. It starts off light but gradually fills the room. I'm the type that's sensitive to strong scents and odors, and I tend to shy away from things with overpowering fragrances as they can give me a headache after a while. As far as I know, Wildwood Candles have never made me feel bad. That's not to say that the scents are subtle, either. Rather they're JUST right. If you are a fan of wood scents, their entire line up is amazing. I love gifting the travel candles as well, everyone always really loves them. Alder is worth the price to me, and even though I'll be moving out of the country this year, I plan to still buy this candle for the rest of my life if I can! Just probably in bigger batches. :) + Wildwood customer service is also excellent, as far as I've experienced.

This Candle Transforms Your Space

The Alder candle by Wildwood Candle Company is a great gift for anyone who appreciates a natural, high-quality burn. From the moment I light it, the scent—crafted entirely from essential oils—fills the space with a warm, grounding aroma that feels earthy and refined. Unlike synthetic fragrances that can be overpowering or artificial, this candle offers a beautifully balanced scent that lingers gently without being cloying.

One of the standout features is its clean burn. There’s no tunneling, excessive soot, or uneven melting—just a steady, even glow that speaks to the careful craftsmanship behind it. The wax pour is flawless, with a smooth surface that remains pristine even after multiple burns. This attention to detail makes it not just a candle but a piece of art in its own right.

Forest vibes

This candle has a great woody scent to it that's not overpowering. The flickering of the wick adds to the atmosphere of calm, just like in the forest.
